$1.3 million grant for Thomasville High School!

Students Using Netbooks

The Georgia Department of Education has awarded Thomasville City Schools a $1.3 million grant to provide netbook computers and electronic textbooks for all high school students for three years, interactive whiteboards for all high school classrooms, and supporting infrastructure. The grant covers all high school students at Thomasville High School including eighth grade and high school Scholars Academy students. The grant program is part of the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

eTextbooks is a Title IID ARRA grant awarded to Thomasville High School (THS) by the Georgia Department of Education. The total eTextbooks grant amount awarded to THS is $1,335,184. Approximately 150 schools across the state of Georgia were eligible for the grant, and only five schools were awarded the grant.

The grant was rolled out to all teachers and 9th/10th grade students in the 2010-2011 school year and to all students in the 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 school years. 

Thomasville High School desires to use engaging digital content to differentiate instruction and improve student engagement while increasing student technology literacy through the opportunity for students to use digital tools. The specific goals of Thomasville High School for the eTextbooks grant are to:
1. Move from traditional textbooks to digital content on netbooks
2. Increase student achievement through engaging students and differentiating instruction.

Through the introduction of a one-to-one computing environment and the transition from traditional textbooks to digital content Thomasville High School will move toward meeting the 2014 goals of No Child Left Behind.
